L'Thai To Open Second Location in Smyrna

Thursday afternoon L’Thai owner Pithya Kongthavorn finalized a deal that will bring his popular organic-inspired Thai concept to Smyrna. This will be L’Thai’s second location, the first is in Tucker.

“We’re going to call it L’Thai West,” says Kongthavorn.

L’Thai West will take over Yukaru Sushi & Steak (4500 West Village Place, Smyrna) in Smyrna’s West Village — a live, eat, play complex on Atlanta Road at I-285. An area called “Smynings” by those who live and work there because of its close proximity to Vinings.

At this outpost I’m told you can expect a wine bar, plenty of craft beer — possibly even draught beer, and liquor.

“We plan to take the beverage program to a whole new level,” claims Kongthavorn.

This location should bode well for L’Thai as Smyrna is an up and coming neighborhood with easy access from Buckhead, Midtown and downtown.

Creating a Crepe Revolution

Crepe Revolution sets out to create genuinely remarkable experiences for its patrons by creating an interactive dining experience. The restaurant is located at the West Village community in Smyrna, Georgia just minutes from Midtown on S. Atlanta Road and I-285.

Having recently purchased a condo at The Flats at West Village and thus being within walking distance to Crepe Revolution I have dined there on a few occasions. The staff puts on a great show and the food is terrific. Yesterday I had the opportunity to sit down with the two founders to learn a little more about this hip restaurant.

Co-owners Neel Sengupta and Chef Robert Morneweck stumbled upon the idea of crepes. It was 2005 and Neel and Rob both worked in executive management positions within the restaurant industry and were both exploring ownership opportunities. Rob was interested in starting a personal chef service and Neel was interested in a chef training business for events. It was then that Neel made a trip up to his native home of Toronto and while at an 11,000 square foot marketplace full of individual kiosks he stumbled upon crepes.

crepe-revolution-smyrna-ga-desertHe recalls people waiting, five people deep, in front of this particular kiosk…not sure what was being sold, but caught up in the excitement he waited his turn to make it to the front. Having seen what looked delicious, When Neel was asked what to order he said he’d have whatever the guy before him had ordered. What he received was a giant Banana’s Foster crepe on a fourteen inch plate that he then brought back and shared with the rest of his family. Crepes were discovered.

Aware that Rob too had been pursuing interests in restaurant ownership Neel approached Rob with the concept of crepes. Why crepes? Why not. They have been tested and proven in every other major metropolitan marketplace. Along with their families, the two have visited more than a dozen cities around the U.S., Canada, and even Paris to learn as much as they could about crepes. This coupled with a lot of dedication is what has enabled Crepe Revolution to become Atlanta’s only crepe themed restaurant.

crepe-revolution-smyrna-gaAs the name hints, Neel and Rob are reintroducing crepes with a noticeable twist – which they call the REVOLUTION. Crepes provide versatility. For proof, try their 5 Step Crepe Experience. Choose from almost two dozen vegetables, a dozen meats and seafood ingredients, seven cheeses and more than twenty sauces, spices and seasonings to create bold crepe creations.

Neel and Rob are thrilled to be a part of the vibrant and flourishing Smyrna Vinings community and invite you to join them for lunch and dinner as well as brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. They are quick to point out that their restaurant and the concept is not at all positioned as French. In fact, due to the versatility of crepes, it is possible to visit for a variety of different tastes. crepe-revolution-smyrna-ga-decorVisit for American, Mexican, Asian, Regional American, Latin Inspired, Cajun, and even Italian…visit for whatever you’re in the mood for! That’s the versatility of crepes.

The decor is modern, urban contemporary with warm earth tones and world music. A full bar featuring select wines in combination with dimmed lights for the dinner crowd makes for an intimate dining experience great for a date. Crepe Revolution is also available for parties and special events.

My picks: Chipotle Pork Crepe, Smoked Salmon (with egg) Crepe, and Banana’s Foster.

Shops, Restaurants Open in Smyrna’s West Village

Homebuyers can enjoy the best of a convenient urban lifestyle and a Cobb County location in West Village, where Monte Hewett Homes is selling townhomes and single-family homes from the high $400,000s to the $700,000s. The first of several restaurants and shops have already opened within walking distance of the luxury homes.

“People are telling us they love the option of having a walkable community with an urban feel positioned a little further from downtown Atlanta,” said Monte Hewett, President of Monte Hewett Homes. “When they get home, they’ll have everything they need within walking distance, from restaurants that will attract people from all around the area to a grocery store and specialty shops with one-of-a-kind items.”

Now open and serving the community are Blue Moon Pizza, Five Guys Burgers, McCray’s West Village Tavern and Starbucks Coffee. Meal Maker’s, Lime Taqueria and Yuraku Japanese Restaurant are scheduled to open in the coming months. Je Belle’s formal boutique, Nora’s Place with fine arts and crafts, Palo’s Shoe Gallery, Pashmere Ladies Boutique and VantagePoint Staffing Solutions have also opened. Colonial Bank, Swee-T-Pie Children’s Boutique, Polished nail and beauty lounge, and a dental office will open soon.

The shops and restaurants create a “downtown village,” which residents can reach by strolling down brick paver sidewalks. When complete, the village will include a neighborhood grocery and larger shops as well. Ample parking is available for visitors.

The community’s residential components will include the 115 townhomes and 70 single-family homes by Monte Hewett Homes as well as apartments and condos. In all, the community will boast some 1,100 residential and retail units. Two decorated model homes, the Howell single-family with private courtyard and the Piedmont townhome with extra space for entertaining, are open daily.
